Every test the statistical test guidance knows, all at once. Answer the questions in any order and the tests that no longer fit fade out. The number beside each answer is how many tests would remain if you chose it.

Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test

Close

Non-parametric alternative to the paired samples t-test used when the differences of pairs are not normally distributed. It ranks the differences by their size, so the differences must be meaningful as amounts, and it assumes they are symmetric around their median.

Use when: The DV is ordinal, or the differences are clearly not normal in a small sample. It compares the ranks of the differences, not their mean.

Alternative to: Paired Samples t-Test. Both apply; start with it. “Use when” says when this test fits instead, and what it compares.

Faded: It is used to study repeated measures designs, not to compare group with hypothetical value or distribution.
