Median Test / Mood's Median Test for Two Samples

Close

Non parametric test used to determine if two or more groups have the same or different central tendency, represented by the sample median. A special case of the Chi-Square Test of Independence, it tests if the medians of the populations the samples were extracted from are different.

Use when: The question is about the medians, and the two distributions have different shapes.

Alternative to: Mann-Whitney U Test / two-sample Mann-Whitney U. Both apply; start with it. “Use when” says when this test fits instead, and what it compares.
